Operations Coordinator (M/V)

This position is not tied to any specific context. Countries are indicative, as a re-shuffling of the portfolio within the operations department occurs on a regular basis. The successful candidate will initially follow operations in India, Sierra Leone, Nigerand Bangladesh.


Main duties and responsibilities

  •  To coordinate and manage a multidisciplinary team that is focused on the delivery of humanitarian projects focusing on medical care. The team is in charge of the global follow up of the above specific missions, so that they work coherently and efficiently together to ensure correct support, follow up and functioning of these missions.  The team works under the supervision of a director of operations and in one unit in the operational department of the Brussels Operational Centre.
  • Responsibility for all decisions relating to the functioning of the cell and missions (designated to their cell) from a field, HQ and external actor perspective. They are directly responsible to the Director of Operations.
  • Principal reference person for and superior in hierarchy to the head of mission.
  • Although having the final responsibility, it is understood that he/she must work to ensure that a certain level of delegation, a participative management approach and an efficient coordination exists between cell, field and HQ in general.

 Role

  •  Develop the operations in close collaboration with the cell and country coordination team
  • Co-ordination of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Follow up and proactive management of operations in designated countries
  • Context analysis and security analysis in countries and regions of responsibility.
  • Budget management and funding strategy (including fundraising, follow up, donor liaison, etc.)
  • Focus point for representation of the cell (in reference to the designated countries or thematic) in front of the MSF International network and for external actors.
  • Ensure that the Director of Operations, HQ and the MSF network in general are kept updated on the operations within their countries.
  • To support activities of other departments

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years MSF experience
  • Medical background is a very strong asset for the position
  • The necessary experience requires a comprehensive knowledge of humanitarian intervention.
  • The candidate must  demonstrate a huge level of maturity in interpersonal relationships.
  • The disciplines at stake in MSF operations deal with numerous aspects and demand that the candidate has experience or shows a real interest in issues like access to drugs and MSF campaign, epidemics (malaria, TB, AIDS), humanitarian and human rights laws, IDPs and refugees, geo-politics and emergency response.
