I     Description of the activities as Medical coordinator

Summary of the post
  • To participate in the decision making on the programme planning and implementation
  • To represent MSF OCB towards others medical actors and MOH authorities together with HOM (head of mission).
  • To ensure the smooth running of the different medical activities and this in close collaboration with the coordination team, the international and the national staff.
  • Together with the HoM and in accordance with the Annual Plan for 2010 to develop handover possibilities for the nutritional program (especially ATFC's) and Obstetric Emergency care.

 

Main activities
  • Pharmacy

·    Overall supervision of pharmacy with the expat pharmacist
·    validate 4-monthly drug order in collaboration with the FieldCo's, the pharmacist and log supply team.

  • Reporting

·    Internal Reports: contribute to the monthly sitreps, updates, minutes
·    Centralize and analyse monthly medical reports and statistics from the projects
·    Compile annual medical report and specific medical donor reports

  • Emergency preparedness

·    Ensure surveillance by regular data collection, and update Early Warning Systems
·    Keep an EPREP document updated to national outbreak thresholds, communication lines and Early Warning outcomes

  • Human resource  Management-

·    Ensure that medical Job descriptions are prepared  for new expats.
·    Conduct the evaluations of medical expats directly falling under the medco – mid term and EOM and participate in the evaluation of other medcial expats .

  • Activities in general coordination and collaboration with other departments.

·    Assist in the preparation and revision of medical budget and ensure a proper follow-up in close collaboration with FinCo.
·    Close collaboration with CoTL and logistic team on medical building constructions, supply and wat-san issues
·    Participate actively  in Annual Revision of Objectives and in Country policy paper

  • Representation and advocacy

·    Participate in external communication with medical- other NGOs, UN agencies, donors and Government- e.g. on planned activity, external visits, response to requests or queries and actively advocate on important program components

  • Expat and national staff health

·    Medco is the final responsible for the health of all expatriates whilst they are on mission in Sierra Leone and supports the assistant medco in setting up procedures for the national staff health.


II     Requirements and conditions

 

Requirements

Preferably medical doctor, or nurse with long professional experience.
Previous experience as medical coordinator in humanitarian organisation, MSF experience ideal.
Experience in post conflict zones, interested in politics.
Leadership and negotiation qualities, able to deal with pressure/ stress related to the responsibilities of the job.
Perfect command of English, both spoken and written, (working knowledge in French is an asset)

Conditions

1 year contract with possibilities for extension. The position is currently vacant.
This is a position for an unaccompanied person or for a family with no children.
Salary according to experience. Housing, house staff and transport provided, per diem.
